Mary Barra – General Motors

Mary Barra is the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of General Motors which is an international auto corporation. GM is one of the largest companies in the world and has been around for decades. Mary became CEO in 2014 and joined the board of directors in 2016. She has a Master’s degree in business administration and has since had a long and exceptional career including also working for Pontiac Motor Division.

Indra Nooyi – Pepsico

Indra Nooyi is the former CEO of Pepsico which is another international corporation which sells beverages. She has been ranked within the most powerful women in the world. Indra attended Yale for her Master’s Degree in Public and Private Management. She was named CEO of Pepsi in 2006 and remained in that role until 2018.

Marilyn Hewson – Lockheed Corporation

Marilyn Hewson was the CEO of Lockheed Corporation. Lockheed Corporation is a very large company that handles aerospace, security, defense, arms, and several other things. Marilyn became the CEO of Lockheed in 2013 and remained in that position until 2020. She has recently moved from a CEO position to the executive chair of the board. She was also named one of the most powerful women in the world.

Abigail Johnson – Fidelity Investments

Abigail Johnson is the current CEO of Fidelity Investments. Fidelity is a financial institution which houses many things. She was named CEO in 2014 and later also became the chairman. Abigail attended Harvard Business school and was able to introduce cryptocurrency to Fidelity creating new opportunities and culture within the corporation. She was named one of the world’s wealthiest women several times.

Sheryl Sandberg – Facebook

Sheryl Sandberg is the current COO (Chief Operating Officer) of Facebook. Facebook is a very popular social media platform. Sheryl was named the COO in 2008 and has also become a part of their board of directors. She had attended Harvard Business School and previously worked for Google. She is also part of the board of directors for The Walt Disney Company.

Ginni Rometty – IBM

Ginni Rometty was the former CEO of IBM, a very large international computer systems company. Ginni graduated from Northwest University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. She worked previously for GM and then joined IBM in 1981. In 2011 Ginni became IBM’s CEO and has served in that role until 2020. She still works as IBM’s Executive Chairman.

Meg Whitman – Quibi

Meg Whitman is the current CEO of Quibi and serves on the board of directors. Quibi is a streaming service. Meg graduated from Harvard Business School for her Master’s Degree and has worked for some very large companies like Ebay, Hewlett-Packard, and Procter & Gamble. She joined Quibi in 2018 as CEO.

Safra Catz – Oracle

Safra Catz is the current CEO of the Oracle corporation. Oracle is a computer software company that is sometimes used by businesses for training purposes. She attended the university of Pennsylvania and previously worked for Peoplesoft. In 1999 Safra joined Oracle and became part of the board of directors. She also has a heavy political involvement and was part of President Trump’s transition team in 2018.

Marissa Mayer – Yahoo

Marissa Mayer was the former CEO of Yahoo, an email service platform. Marissa graduated from Stanford University with a Master’s Degree in Computer Science. She moved on to work for Google and then joined Yahoo in 2012 as their CEO and President. Marissa was named on Fortune’s 40 under 40 list in 2014 and stepped down from Yahoo in 2018. After Yahoo she moved on to forming Lumi Labs, which concentrates on consumer media and artificial intelligence.

Susan Wojcicki – Youtube

Susan Wojcicki is the current CEO of Youtube, a popular social media platform for streaming videos. She attended Harvard as well as The University of California and graduated with her Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Susan went on to be a part of founding Google for some time before joining Youtube. She joined Youtube in 2014 as CEO and was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people.

It’s easy to see from these examples that women can succeed and sometimes go even farther than their male counterparts. Even though women have struggled in the workplace, they can put in the hard work and accomplish what they set out to. They can create companies that will change the world.
