The Bible tells us that God is love. This makes it an ideal source to teach us how to love others. We are not only called to love our family and friends but our enemies as well. Although the world has skewed the true meaning of love, God’s love remains true and steadfast; it is the true source of understanding on how to love.
Below are two categories of Bible verses of that will bring great changes in our hearts and mind as we meditate on them. These verses will also help us learn to pursue self-less love.
Bible Verses About Marriage
Ephesians 5:22-33
“The commandment of God to women who are married is to submit to their husbands. It is always easy to submit ourselves to Christ and in the same way should they be submissive to their husbands. Regardless of what kind of husband you have, he is and will remain to be your head. God has set Christ to be the head of His church and a husband the head of his wife. Therefore, wives should yield to their husbands exactly the way the church yields to Christ.”
On the other hand, husbands have been ordered to show love and affection to their wives. They are expected to follow the example of Christ. Christ had so much love for the church to the extent of giving his own life for her. He chose to die on the cross to purify the church.”
Husbands should, therefore, love their spouses the same way they love themselves. Any man who regards his body shows it by how much he loves his wife. Just as you will never see anyone in their right senses, who claims to hate their bodies no man should hate their wives. Every man feeds and takes good care of their bodies the same way our Lord takes care of His bride (the church).”
The main reason why a man leaves both his parents and accepts to be united to his wife and they form a single unit is a love. It is unfathomable to the human mind. Although I am teaching much about our Lord and his bride (the church), each of you ought to love and show affection to their wives in the same measure you love yourself. Wives, on the other hand, learn to respect your husbands to make it easy for them to love you as they have been ordered to.“
Col 3:18-19
“A wife who respects her husband makes God happy because that is how he set things to be from the beginning. In the same way, husbands should love their wives just as God set it when he was starting the institution of marriage.”
Proverbs 18:22
“Favored in the eyes of God is any man who has found a wife. This is a precious gift from God.”
Proverbs 5:18-19
“May your springs of love be consecrated, and I pray that you will celebrate and find peace in the wife you marry in your youth. May you be so happy just like a loving doe or a graceful deer. I pray that you will not find pleasure in any other woman but you will be satisfied in the breasts of your always. May there be no other woman to give you love other than the wife of your youth.”
Proverbs 31:10-12
“It is not easy to find a wife of a respectable character? Her value is high above rubies. She has found trust in the eyes of her husband because he gets all his heart desires. She is a source of joy to her husband. She causes her husband no pain for all the days of her life.”
Song of Solomon 8:6
“Your spouse should be the seal or stamp over both your heart and arm. This is because; nothing is as strong as love. The strength of love can only be compared with death. The jealousy of someone in love is as powerful as the grave. The jealousy of someone in love burns like a raging fire, and it is as hot as a mighty flame. You cannot quench the strength of love with fire; neither can it be swept away by rivers. If anyone decided to use all his wealth to buy love, it could all be spent and still not be enough.”
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
“The strength and power of two people cannot be compared with that of an individual. This is because; they can achieve more when they work together: when one of them is weak, he is sure he will be supported by the other. Woe unto any person who doesn’t have a partner who will help him out. When two people share a bed, they will not feel cold as they would have felt when sleeping alone since they can generate warmth. When they are attacked, it is easy to fight their enemies together, but when you are alone, you will easily be overwhelmed.”
Mark 10:9-6
“During creation, God created Adam and Eve, therefore; a man will one day leave both his parents and he will be united to his wife. The two will then be converted to one flesh. They will therefore not be two anymore, but they will be one body. For that reason, two people that God has joined in holy matrimony should not be separated.”
Bible Verses on Love and Relationships
As Christians and disciples of Jesus Christ, the Bible teaches us to show love to the world as a symbol of our relationship with him. The Bible says the world will distinguish us by our character of love. The greatest testimony of any Christian is showing mercy and affection to those around us be it family, friends or stranger. God puts no boundaries on love. The below Scriptures will help you choose to “put on love!”
1 Corinthians 13:1-3
“It doesn’t matter how good you are on the outside, if you have no love then you have nothing to boast about. Whether you can speak the language spoken by angels and there is no love in your heart, you are just a loud gong or a clanging cymbal. If you have a prophetic gift or immeasurable faith able to move mountains, you are still nothing without love. If you were so generous and took everything you owned to give to the needy, and offered your body as a living sacrifice, there is no reward without love.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
“Love has its unique character. It is tolerant, shows care and does not celebrate when someone is doing wrong or suffering. If you have love in your heart, you will never boast or count other people’s wrongs. Loving people are not self-centered and do not easily get angry. Loving protects others, they trust them, and they persevere and have hope for better things to come. True love will never fail no matter how difficult the circumstances are.”
Romans 12:9-10
“Someone who loves others is sincere and open-minded. They hate anything that is evil and willingly hold onto what is good. A successful marriage is made of people who are committed to one another. They love their partners more than they love themselves.”
Mark 12:29-31
“When Jesus was teaching His disciples, he told them that nothing is more important in God’s eyes than acknowledging him, and not comparing him with any other. He said that God expects 100% love from us. We should love him with everything in us that is our hearts, soul, and mind. Secondly, God expects us to love other people with the same love we love ourselves. Nothing means more to God than this.”
Romans 13:8
“For us to live at peace with one another, we should always be debtors of love to one another. Let us always seek to give more love to one another day after the other. This is because all laws and commands revolve around love.”
Proverbs 17:17
“Friends love each other at all times.”
Romans 13:10
“Loving someone doesn’t do any harm to them. Actually when we love one another, we are fulfilling all the commands.”
Proverbs 20:6-7
“Many people boast of how much they love humanity, but where can we find someone who is true to their words? Righteous people live clean lives, for that reason, even their children and their children’s children are blessed.”
1 Corinthians 13:13
“Everything can come to one end, but there are three essential things. These are: faith, hope and love, however, love supersedes them all. “
1 Peter 4:8
“Over and above anything else you do, make sure that you have true love for one another. It is because, with love, we can tolerate each other and rarely do we see other people’s faults. “
1 John 4:7
“If we want to be in the right standing with God, we need to love one another. It is because; God is the founder of love. The best sign of believers is their true love for others. You cannot claim to love God and yet you hate your brother or sister. This is because God’s nature is love.”
